Dad hardly spoke of his WWII RN service - on the 40th anniversary he described firing to clear the beaches for the D-Day landings and on the sight of drowned men. We know he had time in Iceland (later found map of lines to be cleared, so on the minesweeper mum mentioned) and in India (whence the photo, on the back his cheeky humour addressed to mum, L/Wren Hilda Fern, "Oh to see you like this..."). Of course supported RNLI. Dad, I wish I'd asked you more. Still love and miss you 13yrs on.
